The Red Angus cowherd at Perks Ranch was started in 1997, with the purchase of half of the mature cowherd from von Forell’s of Wyoming. This purchase included 20 cow calf pairs, which is the foundation of today’s herd. Only a few select females have been purchased since that time. The original cows are strong in the influence of Rambo 502 through his son VDAR Rambo 323 and later a son of 323, 4L Rambo R621 (Rodman).
We were fortunate to purchase RBJR Advance A709 in partnership with ABS. A709 was the top performing bull of all breeds at the 1998 Wisconsin Bull Test. His genetics combined with our original cowherd is a success story of its own. His most noteworthy sons to date are Perks Advancer 9088, our top selling bull in 2000 to von Forell’s, Perks Advance 011R, Perks Advance 121R, our top selling bull in 2002 to Pieper’s, and Perks Advance 234R, our top selling bull in 2003 to Johnson Red Angus. 9088 has produced many national winners and top sellers for von Forell’s. 121R produced the champion pen of three bulls at the 2004 NWSS, one of which topped Pieper’s 2004 bull sale. 234R was named Grand Champion Bull at the 2003 NAILE, seven months after selling to Johnson Red Angus. A709 and these sons are all being used to expand our Advance program. The daughters of A709 are taking the lead in our young cowherd with one producing our 2004 top selling heifer, she was named calf champion at the NAILE just two weeks after the sale. We are excited about how our 2004 bull sale topper, Perks Chateau 309R, is influencing our program. 309R is a maternal brother to 121R and he sold to Walnut Spring Farms and Green Valley Cattle Co.
In 2002 we added the influence of the maternal giant, Miss Forster Cprtop 591. She was added to our program through the use of, Forster HI Roller 0142. Then most recently, in 2006, we added PIE Hoss 5241, sired by LCB HossA444N the newest influential sire at Pieper Red Angus. |
